Now that you have shown interest in fiber to the premise by filling out the ‘Fiber to the Home/Business Form’, you might be wondering what happens now? Although fiber has many advantages over other types of internet, there are several challenges to widespread fiber reaching your home.

Installation costs

While fiber-optic technology has been around since the 1960s, it’s still expensive to install it. Much of this cost is simply digging the trenches to bury the cables underground. Digging a trench isn’t as big of a deal when you’re laying a major internet line to connect a city with a lot of potential customers.

Mosaic has the right equipment to effectively minimize landscaping damage and costs so we can in turn provide affordable, upgraded internet for our surrounding communities. Our engineers also forecast the possible challenges in advance to carry out fiber expansion projects more efficiently.

Short-term alternatives

Although fiber is currently the best long-term solution for residential or business internet, we may offer copper or temporary connections that, while not as fast or reliable as fiber, are still enough to meet the immediate needs of most internet users while we work on extending our fiber territory.

What to do if you currently have our copper internet services and want to upgrade to our Fiber connection?

If you have existing copper internet services and you are in our current fiber build area, you can now sign up to get fiber to your home or business and get speeds up to and soon beyond 2.5 Gig! *ask if your home or business qualifies.

    • Old or current copper customers will still need to sign the ‘Fiber to the premise/Permission to bury fiber’ form.
    • The construction process and the timeline to get fiber to your premise will still remain the same.
    • During the installation of fiber, our crew will remove your old copper drop (demarc/ONT) and replace it with high-quality fiber optic cables.

What to do if you are a customer that never had any internet services?

If you are a new customer and are in our current fiber build area, you can now sign up to get fiber to your home or business and get Gigabit speeds and best in class services from Mosaic Technologies.

  • Any new customers will still need to sign the ‘Fiber to the premise/Permission to bury fiber’ form and select the services they need.
  • The construction process and the timeline to get fiber to your premise will still remain the same. You can find more information on construction at ExperienceFiber.com or call us at 715.458.5400.
  • Once the mainline construction is complete our representative will reach out to you to set up a time for in-home/business installation.
  • During the installation process our crew will set up a small ONT on your house to connect it to the mainline fiber cable.
  • Once the service installation is complete, you can now enjoy uninterrupted, lightning-fast, internet services.

Possible Delays

If there are no delays, it can take up to 14 days from the date the technician places the order for your new underground fiber optic cable to be installed. Unfortunately, we do encounter occasional delays such as:

  • Permits – In some communities, we are required to apply for and receive a permit before we can place the fiber optic cable. Permit approvals sometimes can take longer than expected and this can result into possible delays.
  • Weather Conditions – Snow and rain can impact both the equipment used to bury the fiber optic cable and the ground conditions in such a way that we are unable to dig. Since the weather is often unpredictable, the amount of time these delays can last is as well. Extreme conditions such as ground freezing or flooding can result in longer delays.
  • Underground Utility Locates – All utilities must either mark their lines or let us know they have no lines where we are digging. If a utility is unresponsive, or if the response is unclear, a new request must be submitted. This causes a delay and can be longer or shorter depending on the situation.
  • Other Issues – Other delays can be caused by events such as parades or festivals that may limit our access, or we may need other equipment to perform the work at your home. In the event of a delay other than the ones listed above, our construction crew will explain the issue and give you a best estimate of the completion time.
