Mosaic Technologies hosted its final e-Recycling event of the year in December and tipped the scales on its commitment to the environment weighing in with 25 tons of safely recycled electronics for its customers since its program inception in 2021. Founded on cooperative principles, Mosaic Technologies shows concern for the community through its monthly electronic recycling program on the first Wednesday of the month.
According to the U.S. Public Interest Network, “Electronic waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams in the world.” The United States accounts for an estimated 6.9 million tons of e-waste annually. Although electronic waste makes up 2% of America’s landfill trash, it totals over 70% of the toxic waste materials emitted into the ground and taking at least 50 years to decompose. It is reported, approximately 17 percent of e-waste is properly recycled worldwide. Mosaic Technologies has committed resources for members and customers to take advantage of this free opportunity. “E-Recycling is our way of providing a secure method to dispose of electronics that may have confidential information stored on it and supports environmental preservation,” explained De Anna Westphal, Mosaic Technologies Public Relations Manager. The company has collected over 11 tons of electronics this year alone. Items such as computers, printers, cellphones, and televisions can safely be collected, at no cost, and recycled at the headquarters every 1st Wednesday of each month. Mosaic Technologies collects the customer’s items and processes the recycling in partnership with First Choice of Eau Claire, who securely disposes of the materials and then notifies customers with a recycled authenticity certificate to the customer if they choose.
